The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile’s (FIA’s) Formula 1 racing calendar for 2024 includes 24 races beginning in March and ending in December. March 2 marks the start of the F1 2024 racing season in Bahrain, and December 8 marks its culmination in Abu Dhabi.

  • May 3 to May 5: Miami Grand Prix in Miami
  • May 17 to May 19: Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola (Italy)
  • May 24 to May 26: Monaco Grand Prix in Monaco (Western Europe)

The Formula 1 2024 schedule includes two breaks in the middle of the season. You’ll also enjoy multiple doubleheaders (four) and tripleheaders (two). The doubleheaders are as follows:

  • Bahrain (Mar. 2) & Saudi Arabia (Mar. 9)
  • Hungary (Jul. 21) & Belgium (Jul. 28)
  • Zandvoort (Aug. 25) & Monza (Sep. 1)

The tripleheaders in the Formula 1 2024 schedule are the following:

  • Barcelona (Jun. 23), Spielberg (Jun. 30) & Silverstone (Jul. 7)
  • Austin (Oct. 20), Mexico City (Oct. 27) & São Paulo (Nov. 3)

Notice in the list above that China’s Grand Prix is returning, too, following a break since 2019. Italy’s circuit will also be represented in 2024 after taking a hiatus in 2023 due to intense regional flooding before this year’s race.

How The Formula 1 2024 Schedule Dates Were Selected

One word defined Formula 1’s 2024 schedule development strategy: regionalization. This refers to expanding F1’s reach in various regions worldwide. The goal is to decrease logistical challenges to make the race season more efficient for traveling workers. Formula 1’s goal is also to increase the motor sport’s sustainability through this increased focus on efficiency. It wants to be carbon neutral (producing no carbon dioxide) by 2030.

For instance, for their 2024 schedule, Formula 1 moved Japan’s race to April and scheduled Azerbaijan’s race for September. They also made Abu Dhabi’s and Qatar’s competitions consecutive races, with the Qatar race ending just a few days before the start of Abu Dhabi’s. F1 officials hope this Formula 1 2024 schedule arrangement will improve the racing flow in various regions while allowing drivers and teams to uphold their contractual requirements.

Cultural Considerations

Another noteworthy part of 2024’s F1 season schedule is that Saudi Arabia’s race will be held on Saturday, March 9. Formula 1 made this decision since Ramadan starts on the following day — Sunday, March 10. Bahrain’s race the previous week is also a Saturday race (March 2). This is Bahrain’s first Saturday evening race in its two-decade history. The move demonstrates Formula 1’s passion for demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respecting the values of drivers and fans. Bahrain’s and Saudi Arabia’s races in the Middle East make up one of the 2024 Formula 1 doubleheaders as mentioned earlier.

Expect fireworks between the iconic Hamilton and Verstappen since they both have secured multiple titles and have multi-year team contracts. Verstappen’s Red Bull especially has an impressive record, leading the sport in 2023 by winning all races except for one as of late September 2023 and claiming the constructors’ title. This title recognizes the team that has earned the most points and can’t be eclipsed by other teams no matter the results of the rest of the season’s races.
